What Can I Expect After Liposuction?
Liposuction is one of the most popular methods of fat reduction at The Ottawa Clinic. Through this procedure, our patients can successfully achieve a slimmer, more toned appearance by targeting excess fat in areas of the body. The most commonly treated areas include the lower abdomen, hips and waist, thighs, flanks, and buttocks, though our skilled plastic surgeons can perform liposuction on nearly any area of the body that carries extra fat.
As such a popular body contouring procedure, many prospective patients wonder what they should expect during recovery. As with any major surgery, there are a number of side effects that are fairly normal, such as mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Any postoperative pain can typically be managed with oral pain medication. Within seven to ten days, there should be a significant reduction in any swelling or bruising.
To facilitate the healing process and shorten the duration of your recovery, our surgeons often recommend wearing a compression garment or elastic wraps after the liposuction procedure. These garments or wraps can help keep postoperative side effects at bay while still allowing you to move around. You may be asked to wear a garment or wrap for up to four weeks after surgery. It should be noted, however, that most of our patients return to their normal activities within a few days of treatment. After the healing process is complete, you can enjoy a more shapely, fit, and contoured silhouette.
